This program gives you a quick way to find out the hidden attributes of files on your hard disk or CD. When enabled, the file creator, file type, finder flags, and file attributes are automatically placed in every file's comment field. You can view the comment field by using the Finder's Get Info command. You can also check the “Show comments” checkbox in the Views control panel (new with System 7.0) to cause the comments to appear when you view lists of files in the Finder.
To activate ∏° FileInfo, check the desired options in the FileInfo control panel, and restart your Macintosh.
Notes:
• ∏° FileInfo requires System 7.0 or later.
• FileInfo does not work with files on floppy disks.
• Avoid duplicating files or editing a file's comments when FileInfo is active; you won't break anything, but the file info may end up appearing twice in the comment field.
The creator and file types appear in the following form in the comments:
[TYPE] by [CREA] NtBn
where TYPE is the file type and CREA is the signature of the creating application. This is followed by a series of abbreviations used for Finder flags and file attributes (see below).
Flag & attribute abbreviations:
Lk - Locked
Rf - Resource fork open
Df - Data fork open
Ds - On desktop
.1, .2, .3 - icon color information
.4 - unused
Sw - Always switch launch
Sh - Shared
Ni - No inits
Nt - Initted
Lt - Letter
Cu - Use custom icon
St - Stationery
Sy - System
Bn - Has bundle
Nv - Invisible
As - Alias
∏° FileInfo is shareware. This means that it is copyrighted software that may be used and distributed only in accordance with the terms described in this document.
1) You may use ∏° FileInfo for a two week trial period after you first install it on your computer. The evaluation copy of the program will automatically expire after two weeks. (The text “Evaluation copy expired” will appear in comment fields when the program has expired.)
2) If you wish to use the program after the two week trial period, you must register your copy by sending a license fee of $12 to Pi Zero Software, P.O. Box 8106, Berkeley, CA 94707. As a licensed user, you will receive a written manual and a registration code to convert your copy to a registered copy.
3) Once you have sent in your registration fee, you may continue to use your evaluation copy once it has expired by dragging the file, “∏° FileInfo Preferences” from the System folder's Preferences folder into the trash and restarting your computer. (You will have to open the ∏° FileInfo control panel and re-enable the desired options.) If you don't register, but keep on reviving your demo copy, then you are cheating, and you should feel bad about it.
4) The ∏° FileInfo control panel document together with its accompanying Read Me file may be freely distributed, as long as no charge is made for the software. The two files must be distributed together as a package. User groups and other non-profit organizations may charge a nominal fee for duplication and/or floppy disks.
